Blythes Book

This is a heavily embroidered fabric swatch book that I began when my first child was born in 2010. As a new mother I was in need to continue my art practice and embroidery was a way through this time of entering parenthood and having a newborn. I began drawing imagery of embryos and imagery of the gestation period within the womb considering what I had just grown inside me and then I started to add to it with embroidery. I have started to add vintage emboidery pieces to this book as a connection to other women in the past who have spent time sewing whilst they babies slept. This book is still not finished 15 years on!!
