ART PRACTICE
I am a multi-disciplinary artist and complementary therapist based in Pembrokeshire. My practice as a complementary therapist informs my art practice and vice versa. My studio and bodywork practice are on opposite corners of a field, so I walk between the two spaces to work with the body. Therefore, my practices have evolved to bring elements of one to the other so there is a sense of an ebb and flow, merging and mixing of what I learn, feel, sense, see, feel about the human body within these two disciplines.
The body has always been my source of inspiration and making art is my way of exploring my curiosity about my own human body’s connection to the natural world and a sense of myself being within both simultaneously.
My work is inspired by my inner and outer terrains, from cells to stars and everything in-between. I enjoy using unexpected combinations of materials from soil, herbs, embroidery, textiles, collaging anatomical imagery with hedgerow creatures and I often use fluid-like-media to evoke sacs, vessels and cellular worlds, combining this with hand drawn imagery.
My inner, sensed self, a life force that flows within my body and the natural world is the thread that connects us together. My practice is inspired by this merging and dissolving of boundaries, visualising a sense of oneness with nature, where I am untethered from human form.
