Seahorse commission, Viking Bay Beach, Broadstairs, Kent, UK Thanet Coastal Projects - 2005

In November 2005, Thanet Coastal Projects commissioned Angela Molloy and myself to create two sea horses sculpted from the sand on Viking Bay Beach in Broadstairs. The two sea horses were to serve a dual purpose of acting as sea defences from the winter storms and to add an artistic attraction to Viking Bay beach.  A JCB was used to sculpt the seahorses into place and the commission was completed over three days, in fantastic November weather!  It really was great hot weather. Once we had finished the commission a firework display lit up the sand sculpture and its huge mass provided a perfect seat from which to view the fireworks!
